The Foggy Dream is only a animated digital matte painting that I created as a personal project. I love creating majestic scenery during my past times of doing nothing. This is one of those digital matte paintings that I did and I wanted to create it in a animated z-depth animation.

The sequence without the Movie Title.

This sequence is the final render with the movie title.

This is the making of the animation.

When I first started the project I created a mood board so that I can show what I wanted to create and a general feel of the project. With this established I can research further on what atmosphere with elements that I want in the scene.

While creating the mood board I loved the feel and look of the image on the right. Nice snow fall, iced sidewalk, lamp post with chairs extending to the foreground to the background.

While taking this step of direction I wanted to manipulate the image about 90 percent. I wanted different trees, different lamp post(s), I wanted to add a person walking in the background, shrubbery on the sides for depth and closure of the image.

The image below is another demonstration of what feel I wanted to accomplish in my creation.

With this image I only took the sidewalk, the snow, some natural shadows and bench elements. I used the bigger trees for placement for a different tree that I will be replacing it with. I also used the lamp post as a placement for the new lamp posts that I wanted to place there.

This lamp post was one of the ones that I fell in love with. I wanted a old fashioned / London feel of a lamp post in the scene. I wanted to betray the scene as it was some majestic park or small area in London on a foggy winter morning.

I also provided a modified version of the lamp post to show that I created a very clean plate. This is crucial because of what I will be doing in the animation. I made this clean plate in Photoshop and imported the PS file into After Effects so that I have the clean layer to work with.

With a small view of the light inside the glass I placed a small amount of pink/yellow color. The purpose behind the different color is because I didn't take a picture. You have to create the atmospheric coloring and particles where they would be and what colors would be placed. I wanted to betray that there is a frost in the air where the cold fog is illuminating the light color from the lamp post.
